Signs of the times

"Nobody wanted to play contact football because they were all our age and unemployed, so nobody had insurance." The story went on... they played, and someone's ankle popped. "He found some fly-by-night insurance company and had to wait a week before going to the doctor. So finally he walks into the emergency room on a foot so swollen he can't wear a shoe. It's a compound fracture."

Last weekend, overheard a similar story. "My friend's wisdom teeth are coming in sideways and pushing out all her other teeth. But she wasn't covered by her parents' insurance, so when this started happening she signed up for something as fast as she could. Only she has to wait a month before being able to go to the dentist. She hasn't been able to do anything because the pain is so bad, so she sits at home all day doped up on painkillers."

Sigh.

On a lighter note, another random quote: "After I emptied out his catheter tube, the guy asked me out." This person was working in the REI shoe department at the time.
