Hello Desert
Here:

Mapquest made it for me. Isn't that neat? I had to put in some extra "destinations" (the numbered locations) to get it to trace out a semi-correct path, but there you go. Only inaccuracy is that we're planning to drive up highway 1 all the way along the coast on the way back, not 101/880 the way it shows there.
We'll be spending most of our time at location #2, around Bishop/Big Pine/Deep Springs. Total mileage according to mapquest is 1020 mi. That's a big chunk of California.

If you have time (and it is daylight in Big Sur) I recommend stopping at a resturant (and shop) called the Napenthe.

Its fairly expensive, but its got a great view and a coffee shop which is only semi-outrageous. The store attached has an impressive set of wind chimes and a lot of (expensive) handcrafted stuff and nature themed art. I have occasionally driven down HWY 1 to have dinner there and go back (in the summer for the view). But its a good place to stop, streach your legs, and see what the rich tourists do in Big Sur. (The hotel accross the street is $400 a night and features surly staff [or so I am told]).
