England, day 2, and underwear

This has nothing to do with England, but some people have way too much free time on their hands.

Other than that, well, the weather was more cloudy/rainy/England-like than yesterday. We walked around some more, I saw the baths that Bath is named for, and the crescent building, which is oddly enough shaped like a crescent. Oh, and Marks and Spencer, which included a grocery shop in the back.

Interesting discussions on British/American vocabulary differences. A brief (ha ha) summary:

British - American
boxers - boxers
pants - boxer briefs
slip - men's bikini briefs
briefs - tighty whities
knickers - women's panties
trousers - pants

Actually, doing a French - American translation might be enriching, since for some reason I've learned these words.

French - American
boxer - boxers
caleçon - boxer brief
slip - men's briefs
slip kangourou - tighty whities
culotte - women's panties

The term "slip kangourou" is so cute. Kangaroos have a pocket, so do tighty whities.

Ian disagrees with me on the last one, because he swears that when he was a kid he wore culottes. I'm not one to disagree with his experience, but perhaps it's a Swiss/French difference there, which would take a whole 'nother long conversation and a trip to a Swiss underwear store to resolve, I'm sure. (We prepared this list with a field trip to Marks and Spencer after a lengthy debate and inadequate descriptions.)
