Obligatory Navel-gazing First Entry

So after a lot of hounding from some people, I've finally decided to join the crowd. Yay.

If I were a *real* hacker, I would have rolled my own, but I'm not, so I didn't. This is pretty cool though, it even generates an RSS feed.

I'm going to add things I've been writing recently as a kind of odd trip into the past. So even though this is technically the first entry, it'll be hidden among the rest. Happy birthday.

Having done it myself for years, I assure you, rolling your own is *not* worth it in this day and age of things like Moveable Type. Some wheels are worth reinventing, but this is not one of them.

If I were starting over now (instead of 3.5 years ago), I would definitely have used MT... but back then, all that existed was a prenatal form of Blogger, and with it I couldn't add historical content that I wanted to add.

Yeah. I only rolled my own because I wanted to test out my PLIF code on something simple. It's not worth it if you are starting now. Are there any Free blogging systems though? (as in, GPL?)

A quick freshmeat search for "blog" (apparently MT does't allow me to put links in my comments) reveals lots of GPL blogging software. Which makes the real question, "are there any *good* (in terms of features, flexibility, and security) Free blogging systems?"

Yep, good catch... there are indeed several. I'm sure at least one of them must be usable... :-)

There, no more comments in popup windows, and you can use HTML in your comments too. Everyone happy now? :)

yay, thanks :-)

There's a good free blogging system now, as my own blog system is now available:
