Dye and resist

In this technique, a resist material ("ungutta") is painted or squeezed onto the silk. It acts as a barrier to the dye. Then dyes are applied. Sometimes I apply some of the dye first - such as the large flowers in some of the 30x30 samples below - then put ungutta around the outer rim of the dried dye, then paint the background. Often I also overpaint the dye in areas where there is no ungutta.

You can see a demonstration of this technique.
